Indian Motorcycle Enters a New Era | MOMS Foxboro Proud to Represent the Brand

Indian Motorcycle, one of America’s most legendary motorcycle brands, is entering a new era. Polaris Inc. announced that it will separate Indian Motorcycle into its own standalone company, with a majority stake acquired by Carolwood LP, a private equity firm based in Los Angeles[1]. This move is designed to strengthen both Polaris and Indian Motorcycle by allowing each company to focus on its core strengths and accelerate growth.

For riders, this change represents confidence in Indian Motorcycle’s long-term future. Production, service, and dealer support will continue without interruption. The same models riders love, the Scout, Chief, FTR, and Challenger, will remain available through the existing Indian Motorcycle network. For us here at MOMS Foxboro, it’s business as usual, with even greater excitement about what comes next.

What This Means for Riders and Dealers

According to Polaris, the sale is expected to strengthen its focus on high-growth areas like off-road and marine vehicles while giving Indian Motorcycle the freedom to push innovation and expand globally[2]. The brand contributed about seven percent of Polaris’ total revenue over the past year, demonstrating its strong performance and loyal following.

For Indian Motorcycle enthusiasts, this is positive news. Carolwood LP has a proven record of investing in heritage-driven companies and helping them grow independently. The firm has expressed its commitment to maintaining Indian’s legacy of craftsmanship, performance, and community values that continue to define the brand after more than a century of American motorcycling[3].

Leadership You Can Trust

To lead Indian Motorcycle into this next chapter, Carolwood has appointed Mike Kennedy as CEO. Kennedy is a seasoned leader with more than 30 years of experience in the motorcycle and powersports industry. He spent over two decades at Harley-Davidson, eventually serving as Vice President and Managing Director for the Americas. Later, he became CEO of Vance & Hines, a company known for high-performance motorcycle exhaust systems, and most recently served as CEO of RumbleOn, one of the nation’s largest powersports dealership groups[3].

Kennedy’s background brings deep experience in brand management, dealer relations, and product performance. His leadership gives riders and dealers confidence that Indian Motorcycle will continue building high-quality motorcycles that reflect American craftsmanship and pride.

Indian Motorcycle’s Future

Polaris will retain a small ownership stake in Indian Motorcycle even after the sale, showing continued confidence in the brand. Roughly 900 employees will move with the new company, including engineering, design, and manufacturing teams in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Monticello, Minnesota[1]. These teams have been responsible for the design and production of the current Indian lineup, and their expertise remains the foundation of the company’s success.

This transition allows Indian Motorcycle to operate with a dedicated focus on riders and innovation. Carolwood has stated its goal is to honor the brand’s history while investing in its future, supporting growth, new product development, and rider-focused technology[2].

Looking Ahead

The sale is expected to close in early 2026, pending final approvals and conditions. Until then, operations will continue under Polaris management. For riders, this means uninterrupted access to the same trusted quality, craftsmanship, and dealer experience that define Indian Motorcycle.

At MOMS Foxboro, we view this transition as an opportunity for growth and renewed focus on riders. We believe Indian Motorcycle’s best years are still ahead, and we’re proud to stand with the brand as it begins this exciting new chapter.
